Jackie is a savvy entrepreneur who operates with drive, determination, and selflessness. “I was raised to put others before myself and to give back to the community. I learned this through witnessing my Mother’s actions and observing how she treated others.” Prior to moving to Long Island, New York in 1990, Jackie lived in Nebraska, Illinois, Ohio, Iowa and New Jersey. “When I am asked where I am from, I simply reply, ‘The Midwest.’ During High School, I loved science and decided that I wanted to pursue a career as a Medical Technologist. I enrolled at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City and earned my Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology.” Jackie immediately put her education into action and worked at Mercy Hospital, American MicroScan (a previous division of Baxter Diagnostics, Inc.), and Analytab Products. After three years as Director of Marketing at Analytab Products, she was promoted to President of the division. Throughout Jackie’s career, she earned multiple certifications, including an ASCP designation as a Medical Technology, and an MS as a Microbiology Specialist. She also has four Behavioral Assessment certifications.
In 1999, Jackie took the leap of faith and bought into the Franchise concept. “I was ready to leave corporate America and to be in control of my own destiny.” Jackie bought a Franchise called The Alternative Board, which focuses on Peer Advice and Executive Coaching. “I love being the catalyst for business owners and helping them achieve their personal and professional goals. One of my greatest success stories was a client who was able to turn his floundering business into a company that sold for $17 million. This was more than he ever dreamt was possible!”
During 2015, as The Alternative Board continued to flourish, Jackie launched SevenStar HR, which offers Fractional HR and Hiring Services. “I like to succeed and for others around me to succeed. Ensuring success for others is one of my strongest drivers.” As the owner of two companies, Jackie often hears that she is tough but fair. “My clients and employees always know where they stand, and I hold them accountable for achieving the goals that we agreed upon.” Jackie’s SevenStar HR clients are grateful for her services, as she protects them from compliance risks and costly fines.
As an Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Jackie was approached by John Taylor and asked to serve on the Board of Noah’s Ark Day Care. “I attended one Board Meeting in the spring of 2024, and I immediately said, ‘Yes.’ I felt my marketing expertise would enhance awareness for Noah’s Ark, and my entrepreneurial spirit would drive the nonprofit forward. They had already emerged from the tough post-COVID years. Now, we are positioned to expand revenues and enrollment.” Decisions were made to increase enrollment fees, launch a website, conduct open houses, provide family tours, and expand the summer programming to include children up to age 7. “We are licensed to serve children up to age 7, so it made perfect sense to offer care since parents are working, and children are out of school for the summer.”
Children’s programming includes age-appropriate social skills, basic academics, and going on summer field trips. “We want children to be excited about coming to Noah’s Ark.” Parents experience peace of mind knowing that their child(ren) is being cared for in a safe and nurturing environment. Noah’s Ark offers affordable childcare and intentionally serves underprivileged families and military families. Everyone is welcomed with open arms!
Jackie Gernaey has been paying it forward her entire life. In addition to serving as Elder at First Presbyterian Church since 1995, she has been the Deputy Mayor and Fiscal Officer of Belle Terre, New York, since 2015. “I am excited to contribute my time, talent, and treasure to Noah’s Ark.” As Jackie is known for saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!”
