Board Treasurer

John Sini

John is the definition of dedicated, steadfast and dependable.  As a lifelong resident of New York, he was always interested in numbers, math and science.  John earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Minor in Accounting from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  In 1972, John received his CPA Certification from New York State and became a member of the New York State Society of CPAs and American Institute of CPAs.  He was an active member of the AICPA for 30 years and the New York State Society of CPAs for 53 years.

John began his career at Ernst & Ernst as a Senior Accountant and 3 ½ years later he launched his own firm, John R. Sini, CPA.  “Over the years I have provided services such as accounting, auditing, tax preparation and estate planning for individuals, corporations, non-profits and government agencies.  I am blessed to have formed hundreds of long-standing client relationships.  Getting to know my clients, as well as the problems and issues they are facing, is how I have been able to cultivate and sustain my relationships.”  John is nonjudgemental and meets people where they are.  He derives joy and fulfillment from helping his clients save money and budget wisely.  Along life’s highway, John had various business partners in the CPA Firm, and he semi-retired in 2017.  “I have about 15 clients which I still serve, and I enjoy staying involved in the tax world and keeping up with the changing technology.”

Throughout John’s professional career, he has made board service a priority.  His service includes Treasurer for Mather Hospital for 40+ years, current Advisory Board Member of Mather Northwell Hospital, Treasurer for Jefferson Ferry Continuing Care Retirement Community since 2011, and Treasurer for Noah’s Ark Day Care since 1993.  “The Day Care was originally operated by an Individual who announced that she was retiring.  The Board Members and Congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Port Jefferson wanted to ensure that the Day Care continued to serve the community, so we assumed responsibility in 1993.  We have had multiple Directors over the years, and we were blessed that Venetta Jones agreed to accept the Director’s role in 2021.  She has had the most difficult challenge of all our Directors, as she had to navigate through Covid.  Her efforts and determination were instrumental in keeping the doors open during a difficult and uncertain time.  We have emerged, whereas multiple Day Cares in our area suffered and subsequently closed.”

John’s firm handled the accounting, filed the 990s and provided the budgets for over 30 years for Noah’s Ark Day Care.  Currently, as Board Treasurer, John oversees financial activities and provides financial advice and recommendations.  “Noah’s Ark has an outstanding reputation within the community, and I am proud to say that my three grandsons went to Noah’s Ark and loved it!”

Throughout John’s non-profit service, he as won numerous awards including the Teddy Roosevelt Award from Mather Hospital and the New York State Leading Age Award for his service with the Jefferson Ferry Board.  As John enjoys semi-retirement, he will continue board service and serving a select number of clients via John R. Sini, CPA.  Wisdom is something you gain with experience, and John’s words of wisdom include the following—Stay true to yourself and to others, be more dedicated to life and relationships than money, and always stay safe!
